What is Mount Tai, the Great Ancestor of peaks? Across Qi and Lu, its green never ends. Creation has gathered all its numinous beauty here; Its shaded and sunlit slopes divide dusk from dawn. Layered clouds arise and swell within my breast; I strain my eyes after birds returning home. One day I shall climb to its highest summit And see all other mountains small beneath me.

When I came to Dongjun to attend upon my father, I first climbed the southern tower and let my gaze roam free. Floating clouds join the sea with Mount Tai; The level plains stretch into Qingzhou and Xuzhou. On a solitary peak, the Qin inscription remains; Of the ruined city, only traces of the Lu palace survive. Since always I have cherished thoughts of antiquity; Looking out from here, alone I linger in reflection.
