Desconfianza de sus versos

Los que en sonoro verso y dulce rima

hacéis concepto de escuchar poeta

versificante en forma de estafeta,

que a toda dirección número imprima:

oíd de un Caos la materia prima,

no culta como cifras de receta,

que en lengua pura, fácil, limpia y neta

yo invento, Amor escribe, el tiempo lima.

Estas, en fin, reliquias de la llama,

dulce que me abrasó, si de provecho

no fueran a la venta, ni a la fama,

sea mi dicha tal, que a su despecho

me traiga en el cartón quien me dé fama,

que basta por laurel su hermoso pecho.

Celebró de Amarilis la hermosura

Virgilio en su Bucólica divina,

Propercio de su Cintia, y de Corina

Ovidio en oro, en rosa, en nieve pura.

a la inmortalidad pórfido inclina,

Petrarca por el mundo peregrina

constituyo de Laura la figura.

Yo, pues amor me manda que presuma

de la humilde prisión de tus cabellos,

Poeta Montañés, con ruda pluma,

Juana, celebraré tus ojos bellos,

que vale más de tu jabón la espuma,
