Contribution Terms

These terms apply when readers or contributors submit public domain manuscripts, feedback, corrections, translation suggestions, chapter translations, or future selected audio contributions to BooksWhale.

Effective date: June 11, 2026

1. Covered contributions

Contributions may include public-domain source manuscripts, metadata, source notes, feedback, corrections, formatting reports, translation suggestions, chapter translations, and other materials submitted through BooksWhale features.

BooksWhale may introduce reader-contributed audio for selected editions in the future. Audio is not promised as a general feature unless it is visible and enabled for a specific edition or chapter.

2. Public-domain source manuscripts

Submitted manuscripts must be lawful public-domain source texts, not modern copyrighted translations, annotated editions, commercial ebooks, scans, or files copied from sources that do not permit reuse.

A source manuscript should be the original-language public-domain work where possible. BooksWhale may use such sources to prepare editions in the platform's supported reading languages.

3. Your promises and license

By submitting a contribution, you confirm that you have the right to submit it and that it does not infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, trademark, contractual, or other rights.

You grant BooksWhale a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, edit, adapt, translate, format, publish, distribute, display, perform, process, and make your contribution available as part of BooksWhale editions and services.

4. Review, rewards, and moderation

BooksWhale may accept, reject, edit, merge, reformat, translate, moderate, remove, or delay any contribution. Submission does not guarantee publication, reward, display, or continued availability.

Approved contributions may receive platform rewards such as book credits or membership benefits. Rewards are not cash, salary, royalties, employment, partnership, or a promise of future income.

5. Future audio and takedown

If BooksWhale enables audio contribution, recordings must be your own lawful performance or fully authorized for submission. Do not upload commercial audiobooks, AI voices, third-party readings, copyrighted music, or recordings containing rights you do not control unless explicitly permitted.

If a contribution appears to infringe rights or contain serious errors, BooksWhale may remove it, restrict access, request more information, or update related editions.
