Keep your words. Continue when you are ready.

Emerlen is a personal writing space for fiction, nonfiction and screenplays. This page is available without an account or Pro purchase. Release availability is announced separately; publishing this help does not mean the app is already in stores.

Saving and returning

Check the editor’s local save status before closing your work. Leave a next-step note if it helps you return. If saving fails or text seems missing, keep the current window and local app data. Do not uninstall or clear storage. Preserve the text you can still see, then retry or contact support.

Writing surfaces and history

The editor’s palette offers warm paper, soft gray, light beige and night. Changing the surface does not change your manuscript. Adopting a historical version changes the current chapter; keep a copy first if you need both. Restoring an independent copy creates a separate work instead of replacing the original.

Backups, exports and moving devices

A complete project backup contains the manuscript, structure, notes, history and recovery records. A text export has a smaller scope and does not contain private notes or recovery history. Save complete backups in a location you trust before uninstalling, changing devices or recovering work. Backups are readable files with damage checks, not encrypted archives. Restore as an independent copy and check the result before removing the original.

Local work and file providers

Work is saved on your device. The current release configuration does not provide automatic cloud synchronization or Apple–Android synchronization. You can move complete backups manually. A cloud drive chosen in the system file picker and operating-system backups follow your own provider settings; they are separate from Emerlen synchronization.

Experience and annual Pro

In editions with Pro enabled, you choose when to start one calendar month of full experience. No payment method is required and it does not charge automatically. Only a separate, explicit store purchase starts annual auto-renewing Pro. The US base price is $9.99 per year; the store shows the actual local price before purchase. One Apple purchase covers iPhone and Mac using the purchasing Apple Account. Google Play purchase and restoration are independent. Development previews may remain fully unlocked.

Restore, manage or cancel

Use Restore purchases on the app’s Pro page while signed in to the store account that made the purchase, and connect to the internet to check ownership. Use Manage subscription or your store’s subscription settings to manage renewal. On iPhone this is Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android use Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Uninstalling Emerlen does not cancel a subscription. Billing and refund requests are handled through the store that charged you; keep card details out of support messages.

Offline access and payment problems

On Android, a successful online ownership check allows up to 30 days before another online check is needed. This is a verification window, not your subscription expiry date. Offline checks and app restarts do not extend it, and refunds cannot be discovered immediately offline. Google payment failures have a 14-day grace period, followed by a store-calculated account hold without Pro editing. Apple access follows its verified subscription or grace period. If access cannot be verified, reconnect and restore before making another purchase.

Your existing writing stays accessible

When the experience or verified Pro access ends, you can still read, export, make complete backups and restore your own writing as independent copies. New editing requires active access. Text already entered, including an unfinished input-method composition, is allowed to finish saving. Access changes do not delete, truncate or automatically archive your manuscripts. Keep independent backups; no software can promise that data will never be lost.

Contact support

Email xiaoguang@bookswhale.com or use the BooksWhale contact page. Tell us the app version, system, steps and what happened. Usually we do not need manuscript text. Send screenshots or backup files only if you deliberately choose to share them for a specific issue. Never send passwords, payment-card details or store purchase tokens.
