About these terms
Effective November 2, 2026. These terms describe Emerlen from BooksWhale Limited Liability Company (BooksWhale LLC), including previews and versions offered for distribution. Your work remains yours
You retain the rights you hold in your manuscripts and notes. Writing, importing or exporting with Emerlen does not transfer ownership of your work to BooksWhale. You are responsible for permissions relating to material you create, import or share.
A calendar month, started by you
In editions with Pro enabled, the full experience begins only when you choose to activate it and lasts one calendar month. It needs no payment method and does not charge automatically or enroll you in store renewal. It is separate from a store subscription trial and a payment-failure grace period. Archiving or deleting works does not restart it. Development previews may remain fully open.
Annual Pro and renewal
After the experience, starting or continuing new edits requires valid Pro access. Pro is an annual auto-renewing subscription, purchased only with your explicit store confirmation; it is not priced by works, chapters or words. The US base price is $9.99 per year. Apple’s mainland China price is CNY 9.90 per year; other local prices, taxes where applicable and renewal information are shown by your store before purchase. Your store account is charged under the terms shown in its purchase sheet. Review that price and renewal information before confirming.
Managing, cancelling and restoring
You can manage or cancel renewal through the store that billed you, including the app’s Manage subscription link. Use Restore purchases with the purchasing store account and an internet connection to recheck access. Uninstalling the app or deleting manuscripts does not cancel renewal. Cancellation stops future renewal under the store’s rules; it is not itself a refund request. Refund requests are handled by the relevant store and applicable law. One Apple Pro purchase covers iPhone and Mac under the same purchasing Apple Account; Google Play purchase and restoration are separate and do not transfer automatically between stores.
Offline verification and payment failures
Android requires online ownership re-verification no later than 30 days after a successful online check. Offline queries and restarting the app do not reset this window. The window is not the subscription expiry date, and an offline device cannot immediately learn of a refund. Google renewal payment failures have a 14-day grace period, followed by a store-calculated account hold, currently 46 days, without Pro editing during hold. Apple access follows the subscription validity and grace period verified by Apple. If verification is unavailable, reconnect and restore; do not assume a local status is a new payment or buy twice to solve a temporary error.
Access to existing manuscripts
Without active experience or Pro access, your existing writing remains readable, exportable and available for complete backup and independent restoration. The restriction applies to starting new edits. Already-entered text and an active input-method composition can finish saving. Loss or expiry of access does not delete, truncate or automatically archive your work, and retrieving your own writing does not require a new purchase.
Local files, backups and synchronization
You are responsible for keeping independent complete backups in trusted locations. Text exports have a smaller scope than complete project backups. Checksums and history do not replace a backup or encrypt it. The current release configuration does not provide production cloud synchronization, automatic Apple–Android synchronization or permanent cloud copies. System backup and user-selected file providers are separate services under your settings. Purchase coverage across Apple devices does not mean manuscripts synchronize, and no software can guarantee that data will never be lost.
Changes and support
We will update these pages when the described features, data practices or terms change. Changes do not grant BooksWhale ownership of your manuscripts or authorize a purchase without store confirmation. Please check the published effective date.
